Interactive Educational Ebook

This task requires students to create an interactive educational e-book based on an educational topic. The goals of the e-book is to help illustrate concepts of the topic as well as to engage the targeted audience to that particular topic.

Additionally, a specific character should be created and designed for the e-book. This is followed by having students to digitally illustrate the graphics used in the book and it should be complementary to a particular arts movement. The graphics styles used should be consistent throughout the e-book. It should be reminded that student should also include front and back cover in their final product, as it is a book after all.

An interactive copy of the e-book should be exported in .swf file format. Students should also test to make sure that their e-book are compatible to work on mobile devices. Some example of interactivity that students may includes are page swiping, page scrolling, pop- up windows and hyperlinks based on their creativity.

Theme and concept

After a long thought, the topic of “Optical instrument : DSLR” is chosen for this project. This is because:

a) Own a DSLR and therefore have a first hand experiences on what it is

b) Photography is becoming increasingly popular in this digital era.DSLR have become popular due to the increasing availability of DSLR made for beginners.

c) Despite this, there are still people that do not actually understand what their DSLR can do.

Art Style

Art movement/style are used to give a product a unique and memorable look. It is equally crucial to use an appropriate for this e-book.

Since this e-book discuss more on technological equipment, a modern art style/theme is more appropriate to be used. With multiple modern art movement available, “Material/flat design” is chosen. This art style is often used in many modern electronics products namely on-screen interface. Reason for using this theme is because it focuses on simplicity and clarity. The art style is popularized by Google from their UI for their mobile operating system combine the element of minimalism with the fluid user experience.

Colour theme

Colour theme is important to any product. It not only gives the look and feel of the product but also help to reinforce the subliminal theme of it. Many considerations are needed in order to come up with the appropriate colour theme. Some of the areas that need to be considered is:

Multiple color theme are considered for this e-book, the “canon” colour theme are chosen to be used as the colour theme for this e-book. This is because Canon are a prominent camera brand in Brunei so the colour theme is very familiar to most people in Asia.

Interactivity

Interactive ebook is different that regular ebook in the sense that there are actions that the users can perform to enhance their reading experience. Multiple ways of interactions are considered such as wiping, pinching, holding, rotating, scrolling. However the software used must be taking into account when deciding which interactable are suitable.

Button click are the primary ways of interactions on this ebook. The most obvious being the circular button that will turn to the next page when clicking.

Aim of the eBook

This book is designed to be an interactive guide on what a DSLR is, how it became what it is today, how it work. The end goal of this book is to increase the user’s appreciation to their DSLR and also to help them to make full use of it. This book is also designed to be simple to understand and contain only the important information related to the topic.
